Bio on Douglas Winne

Pastor Doug Winne was born into a Christian home - a pastor's home - and therein learned the truths of God's Word from the time he was a young boy.  While in high school, Doug attended a youth conference in San Diego, California where the idea of the Lordship of Jesus Christ over Doug's life took hold, accompanied by a deep interest in studying the Bible and telling others about Jesus.  Doug went on to attend and graduate from Moody Bible Institute (Chicago), Arizona State University (Tempe, AZ) and Westminster Theological Seminary (Philadelphia).

During his years in seminary Doug met Ruth Meixell and they were married soon after his graduation. Doug worked as a museum manager in Philadelphia for three years before moving to Lancaster to begin his career as a real estate agent.  Several years later, the pastor of the church that Doug and Ruth were attending resigned and Doug was then called to pastor that church (the Lancaster Evangelical Free Church in Lititz). Under Doug's leadership the church grew from 80 to approximately 1400 attendees.  After nearly twenty-five years of ministry at that church, Doug resigned and soon after became involved in a new church formation in the Lancaster area which eventually became the Burning Hearts Community Church.

Doug  and  Ruth  have  five  children,  the  oldest  four  of  whom  are  either  married  or  in college/grad school.  The family lives in a stone farmhouse that was built in 1783.  Doug enjoys his family, golf, motorcycling, antiques and renovating the farmhouse.
